Two busts in a week? Why, yes.
This is my second competition piece for SMC and a little different to the first. With one model I was truly happy with ready to go, this gave me opportunity to try a new technique, stippling. It's applied to the head scarf and the skintones on the front, and takes a lot of time but I'm happy with the results. I don't feel it's as strong as my first model for the show, but it was nice to have the freedom to try other things without fear.
The box art for this piece from Indaco (https://www.indacomodels.com/product/oracle-witch/) is ridiculously good. It's based on the artwork by Maria Dimova (https://www.instagram.com/mary_dimary/) but the precision with which Erik has painted the model is remarkable. Truly he's a patient man with a steady hand.
I wanted more of an art deco era feel to mine. Rich greens, cooler yellows and blues, against a more natural caucasian skintone. With more time I'd consider adding further detail to the head scarf to make it more intricate, but I was concerned about time available as this was only started three days before travelling to the event, and also if it would end up overpowering the face. Something for me to think on in the future.
